• Be understood

Create meaningful marketing materials that clearly explain your technology and your value to multiple audiences.

  • Scale without hiring

Temporarily ramp up resources for a product launch or campaign without bringing on full-time staff.

  • Work with a single point of contact

No need to follow up with a bunch of different freelancers and contractors. Work gets done and you get updated.

  • Build your marketing arsenal

Create a collection of consistent brand and marketing collateral to show your prospects you mean business.

  • Pitch your company with confidence

Communicate with your prospects confidently knowing they're hearing a consistent message across all your marketing channels.

  • Focus on running your business

No more hours wasted trying to create all the marketing deliverables yourself or managing different freelancers.

You've got a business to run.

Which is why you shouldn't be spending half your week working on version 23 of your pitch deck.

But you feel like you can't trust anyone else to do it. Because you're a technology company, and only you understand your technology.

Unfortunately, that's also your biggest problem.

When you're the only one who understands your technology, you end up spending too much of your time trying to explain it to everyone else.

It's time to streamline.

What if you could spend less time explaining and more time focusing on your business?

What if you could engage with prospects confidently, knowing you don't have to "wing it" every single time?

What if you could arm your sales and business development people with everything they need to qualify prospects and and communicate your value without you having to be in the room?

Marketing a science and technology business is challenging, for sure. But it is not impossible.

All it takes is a willingness to adapt marketing principles to your situation and to dig in and learn what really makes your product valuable to your ideal customer.

What is Managed Marcom?

Managed marketing communications is a service that enables small and mid-size science and technology businesses to add dedicated marcom to their operations without hiring an in-house marketing team.

“Great. So why would I want that?”

I'm glad you asked!

Two of the most valuable things you can do for your business are to refine your value messaging and build an arsenal of marketing collateral based on that messaging.

Because nothing says “we aren't ready for the Big Leagues” like . . .

  • a customer pitch that was put together between three different people across five airports in the last 24 hours before showtime.
  • a CEO, a CTO, and a sales VP who all sound like they're pitching different companies.
  • a website that doesn't match the brochure that doesn't match your pitch deck.
  • a 20-minute answer to the question, "what does your company do?"

“What other options do I have?”

Hiring full-time marketing staff might solve some of these issues, but that's a pretty expensive and very permanent commitment which may or may not actually provide the benefits you expect.

You could also work with a full-scale marketing agency. And there are some very good ones out there. But they also may require a level of project scope and financial commitment for which you aren't yet ready.

And even if you can enter into a smaller commitment with an agency, often it puts you at the bottom of the pile when it comes to client priorities.

“Do I really need to worry about branding a B2B technology company?”

Let's be honest, there will probably never be a need for you to buy Super Bowl ads or worry about shelf placement in the grocery store.

However... wouldn't it be nice if you could confidently enter your next customer meeting knowing that your message was thought out and consistent across the board?

How much more effective could your sales team be if they knew exactly what types of business to pursue and were supplied with custom-tailored messaging for each?

And wouldn't it be great if your prospects could start qualifying themselves automatically because they can clearly understand exactly what you offer and the value it provides?

Get dedicated marketing support from someone who understands your business.

Your prospects will clearly understanding your value. You will have more time to focus on operations.

Pricing Plans

This service is available in three flexible plans to suit the needs and development stage of your business

How does the fee structure work?

Subscription Fee + Project Work = What You Pay

What you pay in a given month will be the sum of the monthly subscription fee plus any costs related to project work completed by myself or other contractors during that month.

You and I will work together to determine which projects to execute and to set a budget you will be comfortable with.

Costs related to project work might include:
  • hourly fees for graphic design, web development, etc.
  • partial or lump-sum payments for a large video or website project
  • incidental expenses such as stock imagery, templates, etc.

This structure allows you to set a marketing budget that matches your goals for a given time period, with the ability to scale it up or down over time as your needs change.

How does this differ from a normal marketing agency relationship?

In a nutshell, the biggest differences are leanness and specialization.

Leanness

When you work with me, you aren't paying extra to cover fixed costs of running a full-scale agency.

We'll also work together to choose projects with a scope that makes sense for your business, so you don't pay for things you don't really need. Hopefully you didn't have your heart set on a Super Bowl ad . . .

You'll also be able to scale your marketing initiatives quickly and easily without committing to a large amount up front.

Specialization

Although you can find marketing agencies of all sizes, shapes, and specializations, many (if not most) of them are generalists. You will find a few good science- and technology-focused agencies out there, but even they can be a lot to bite off at once for a startup or small business.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this differ from a normal marketing agency relationship?

This service is generally leaner than working with a fully-staffed agency. This effectively lowers the barrier to entry for small and mid-size technical companies to produce great marketing materials.

This is also a bit more specialized than many main-stream agencies, in that it focuses specifically on  communications and branding for science and technology companies.

How are the deliverables produced?

All deliverables are produced under my direction. Depending on the nature of the project (websites, brochures, brand assets, etc.), work is usually distributed among a network of specialists to achieve optimum quality and efficiency.

How do I know if this is right for my business?

Besides the major benefits listed above, your management philosophy will play a large role in determining whether or not something like this will be a good fit for you and your business.

If you are the type of person who sees the value in bringing in outside expertise because it allows you to focus on growing your business, then this service is right up your alley.

If, on the other hand, you are the type of person who is always looking for a "deal" and you feel a strong sense of nobility in doing everything yourself in order to save money, then this service is probably not for you.
